You don’t have to look far for unique local events that celebrate the flavors and culture of St. Thomas.
Here are five events that will have you enveloped in island culture in no time.
Weekly Events
- Cook Like a Local. This fun, delicious, and hands-on event features a weekly cooking class where you’ll cook local recipes like an expert. Weekly classes are held at The Tuck Shop Downtown, LLC in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Cook Like a Local is held from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m., and tickets, which are $95, may be purchased through Eventbrite.
- Toddler Tuesdays. The Virgin Islands Children’s Museum welcomes early learners and caregivers to Toddler Tuesdays starting at 10:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. This program features STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading and Writing, Engineering, Arts and Humanities, and Mathematics)-based learning and pop-up activities including arts and crafts, movement and music exploration, science experiments, and much more. The museum is closed for temporary maintenance, but will reopen Tuesday, September 1st for normal business hours.
Annual Events
- St. Thomas Restaurant Week. Various restaurants around the USVI are offering specially priced menus celebrating local flavors. Brunch, lunch, and dinner prix fixe menus offer vibrant USVI recipes at affordable prices. Participating restaurants include Cutlass and Cane, Sugarcane Grill, The Cardow Rum Room, La Marina Bar & Restaurant, and more. St. Thomas Restaurant Week runs through August 31.
- Victory. Run. Walk. This run/walk celebrates victory over personal challenges. Runners, walkers, singles, and families come from around the world to take part. Participants can run in the half marathon (13.1 miles), a 10k (6.2 miles), and a 5k run/walk (3.1 miles). Event details, along with registration fees, are available on the website. - Vibes on the Rock. According to the website, this thrilling event features “A weekend where residents, visitors, friends, family, and the diaspora can gather to celebrate everything we love about these islands.” This is a new “Whine and Food Fest” for the United States Virgin Islands beginning November 6-8. November 6 is Chattahbox comedy night, with headliner Eva Evans; doors open at 8 p.m. Day two (November 7) is Bacchanal en Blanc, described as an “all-white upscale party experience.” Wear pure white clothing and avoid off-white, cream, or beige. (Day three) November 8 is the day to set sail. This will be a day sail with cocktails, a shimmering turquoise backdrop, and relaxing celebrations. Purchase tickets on the website linked above.
